    I worked at SSMU full-time

    Pros

Great way to apply business and finance problems to the real world. The job is an interesting mix of non-profit, finance, accounting, and operations.

    Cons

The hours can be incredibly long. This is the type of job where you ultimately get what you put into it; so to get the best experience, you really need to devote a lot of time to it.

    Advice to Management

Cut down on redundant staff while trying to preserve organizational memory is the most challenging part of managing SSMU. Ultimately, SSMU needs to be more stable than it has in recent years and looking at reducing staff members while increasing salaries may help reduce turnover.

I have been working at SSMU part-time

    Pros

    flexible hours
    student friendly environment
efficient bureaucracy for the most part
close knit community is a huge advantage for pushing policy/advocacy through the higher management

    Cons

not enough hours for part time for students who are supporting themselves
the portfolio is far too ambitious for the resources afforded to it
not enough structural capacity within the broader institution

    Advice to Management

expand the portfolio so that the work can gain traction in the community and benefit from the visibility of more ambitious projects
