Former Employee - SUNY Oswego Graduate Assistant in Oswego, NY
Former Employee - SUNY Oswego Graduate Assistant in Oswego, NY
Approves of CEO

Pros

Pays for half of your tuition
Free employee parking pass
Good to have on resume
Make a lot of connections

Cons

You have to work eighteen to twenty hours a week - this is very hard if you are taking alot of classes

Advice to Management

I think that they need to publicize these positions more, as well as those in the Student Association, a large majority of the students have no idea these positions exist, which leads to the same people, (have of whom are not capable of doing their jobs), keep getting these positions.

    Pros

    Hours are great.
Allows you to meet new people on campus.
Watch movies, listen to music, or do your course work during your shift(s).
    Salary isn't that bad either.

    Cons

Some of the students are pretty annoying and don't exactly respect you as the monitor of the lab. This is especially obnoxious when you are staying over your shift so someone else can complete work. People never sign in... If it's too difficult for you to simply put your name on a piece of paper at this time in your life, then you have a long way to go my friend.

    Advice to Management

Make sure that all the employees are doing their fair share of work in regards to cleaning and lab care. It really isn't that hard of a job to do, you spray.... then you wipe.

    Pros

There are many opportunities to make substantial and positive contributions to the institution. The campus is growing both in student population and facilities. About $300 million will be invested in new facilities and facilities refurbishment over the next several years. This will help establish the university as a truly world class institution. There are some exciting opportunities available to creative and enthusiastic individuals who wish to have a positive impact on the education of young people.

    Cons

It is a little isolated from main stream culture and significant services. The weather in the winter can be a little difficult to handle. There is still a strong "old school" culture among many of the faculty and staff who have dedicated their careers to the university. Often this can be an asset, but it can also be a barrier to progress.

    Advice to Management

Be more open and transparent with decision-making and communication.
