I worked at SWCA part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Team of (young) dedicated employees who like what they do and work hard.

    Cons

Company gets by on the cheap, underpays the people who produce, and has high turnover because of it

    Advice to Management

Pay your employees a decent salary and they will stick around

I worked at SWCA full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The first-tier management still cared about the science. and about doing very quality research and documentation. The smaller offices seemed to have good internal rapport and supported each other; not so much the bigger offices

    Cons

Split personality! Management wants to be like URS or AECOM - all big money and high glam stuff. Staff (when I was there) wanted to retain the 'tree house' image and keep it funky and fun. Senior management was systematically removing anyone who disagreed with the Bigger Is Better mentality, but that Senior Management has since been removed, too.

Everyone above first tier management was focused on meeting individual sales goals - hard to be a research botanist or a full time environmental planner and 90% billable with a multi-million dollar sales goal that even if you help bring it it, the management takes the lion's share of the sales credit

    Advice to Management

More tree house! Treat your scientists like scientists, not like money-grubbers.
