I have been working at Safestore full-time for more than a year

    Pros

There is good support and training avaliable to all staff and lots of oppertunities to learn and develop if you want to put the work in.

    Cons

Small teams and some lone working. Holidays and sickness have a large impact on staff still in the business.

    Advice to Management

Sorting out the spped of our systems would vastly improve producitivity, feel as though I spend far to mcuh time waiting for things to load.

    I worked at Safestore

    Pros

    - Bonus structure is great. Earnt a bonus 10 out of 12 months. Set up as a 'team' bonus rather than comission to encourage working as a cohesive unit - Company is very flexible with working ours, if you end up working more than expected. Will absolutely let you take time back with no problem - Encourages staff development with weekly coaching, quaterly reviews & a training folder that rewards staff... financially when completed. There is also a scheme to train sales consultants to manager level , getting a manager salary once completed, even if the consultant isnt actually managing a store yet. -Upper management is more in touch with the staff at the front end far more than alot of comapnies . They get involved and genuinely seem interested in developing from within. - Job itself is relatively simple and easy to pick up, but has the potential to really reward those who want to level up and are driven - Job does have a degree of variation. Phone work, 1-1 face to face, admin, psycial work outside of office. - Training is at a good steady pace. New starters generally are eased into role and expecations are gradual - You will still be entitled to bonus if you're on maternity leave, sick, on holiday etc

    Cons

    - it isnt the most sexy of products and therefore doesn't have the 'cool' or 'fun' . -Recruitment process is ineffective. Too Reactive and too passive. Does not allow applicants to forward a CV over having to fill in an online application which is laborious, and make potential applicants may not to bother . Made to make ot easier for HR to access , but can be frustrating and time consuming for potential... applicants . This can lead to lack of actual applicants, which then leads to the company seemingly being perpetually understaffed which then leads to the biggest gripe i see with staff. Lone trading - There is a degree of lone trading which is never popular with most people. It doesn't bother me as much as a lot of people, as a previous job i was lone trading 100% of the time. But i understand the criticism with staff. - You need to be somewhat self motivated . Ive seen people on here complain that it can be somewhat dull. But i think alot of the onus of this lies with the individual. A self motivated person can find things to do (so ask yourself is that you?) . I always find stuff to do ( though you are limited if you are lone trading) but some people just may not be that way inclined , so therefore become disillusioned

    Advice to Management

Needs to be more pro acrive with recruitment. Make it easier for applicants to apply. The biggest complainant is lone working. The biggest reason for lone working is not enough staff. So the passive recruitment policy leads to the most staff turnover. Over recruit by 2-3 mobile people n the region. Drop them into branches when people are on holiday, have left, sick etc and you resolve your problem. But you... need to make the application process easier, every other storage company you can just send a CV (which people have either paid to get done or spent ages making) they do not want to fill in all the same information they have just put on a CV again for them to may or may not get a response. Safestore is not 'Apple' or 'Holister' they do not sell some cool product that people desperately want to work with. I understand that HR dont want to open up different file formats and have not uniformed presentation. But its costing you applicants, which is costing you full recruitment which in turn is costing you staff turnover
