I worked at Safeway full-time (More than a year)

Pros

Healthcare benefits and employee discounts were a plus. The experience I gained was invaluable. Working with multiple states was great.

Cons

Too many layers of management as is with most large corporations. Unable to deliver on career advancement goals. No clear path for career minded individuals.

Advice to Management

Don't make promises you can't keep.

"Terrible. Lied about hours and demands together me to accept offer."

I worked at Safeway full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Free food in the break room that "fell off" of the pallets in the warehouse.

    Cons

Hired on as four 10 hour days with three days off. First day at work I was told they require 12 hours a day and never once did I work less than 13 hours. Benefits were terrible. $158 a week for Kaiser.

    Advice to Management

When you make an offer be honest about the hours. It is understandable that a salary employee will be asked to work extra hours when necessary but not to blatantly lie.
Upper management needs to look at the evidence and realize/understand why they have been through at least 50 Supervisors over the last 10 years.
    Absolutely NO life/work balance.

I worked at Safeway full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Starting at Safeway as a courtesy clerk and ultimately moving up the management in 5 years has allowed me to gain valuable management experience that will be useful in future job openings. It does depend on the store you work for, but there are many with great people that make the day-to-day tasks more enjoyable.

    Cons

It's your basic retail situation so working on holidays, sporadic schedules, dealing with irate customers are all part of the job.
