I worked at Safeway part-time (Less than a year)

Pros

Gave me income to go to the other job I was going to which I enjoyed much more

Cons

Long hours, jerk managers, rude customers, low pay

Advice to Management

Get managers who treat their employees decently and respect that they do things like pursue their education and aren't chained to their job at Safeway.

I have been working at Safeway full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Stable paycheck every week, decent benifits, although becoming very expensive for the employee. If you like to travel, this one is for you. Safeway does present the opportunity to move laterally or up if you are qualified.

    Cons

Very poor work life balance. Senior management chooses not to see the difficulties created for thier employees due to the SM's decision making. Upper management seems to generally ignore suggestions form rank and file employees.

    Advice to Management

Start an employee sharing incentive award. Not employee owned, but certainly employee driven results. With out that, there is, and will continue to be, a complete disconnect with back stage workings.Get back to basics, customer service starts with the genuine care for the customer, after all they are the ones signing the pay checks. Quit micromanaging the stores, the str. managers know better than corporate what the local customer wants at any give time. One size does not fit all!
