I worked at Safeway full-time (More than 10 years)

Pros

great advancement opportunities, potential to make 6 figures with a bonus as a manager, excellent benefits if you work for a non union store, union stores do not offer as much and the whole benefit package is different

Cons

very stressful, high demands, very "corporate" and all about policy, no grey, all black or white, they say that they are family oriented but when you are salary as a manager or assistant it seems like you can't be sick and your always on call, you cant even shop in the store on your own time without being asked tons of questions so you pretty much have to shop else where

Advice to Management

watch everything you do and follow policy to the tee! Safeway is big on policy which is a good thing but sometimes things are grey, not always black or white but sometimes policy is set aside which can be a bad thing, not always as consistant when it comes to some policies like WIC violations

I worked at Safeway part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The work was relatively easy and you weren't in charge of others. There is always something to do and it provides a great way to exercise because it is labor intense.

    Cons

The job was hard work, especially placing the go back items on the shelves and retrieving the carts. Lines are long sometimes and customers will complain because of the wait. Taking out the trash can get very messy at times.

I have been working at Safeway full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

used to be stability! (people have to eat). its all about dividends to stockholders and bonuses to upper level management. you have to fight to get paid time off and if you get sick you can and will be reduced to part time status.

    Cons

its all about dividends to stockholders and bonuses to upper level management. you have to fight to get paid time off and if you get sick you can and will be reduced to part time status. if I didnt have 20 yrs with them I would leave.

    Advice to Management

re-structure and get rid of the dead weight holding this company back and staff the stores like competitors do. secret shoppers are the biggest inside joke in denver div. 2nd place goes to the district managers. there are some very good store managers.
