    Pros

Some flexibility in schedule, along with benefits and wages that the senior employees receive.

    Cons

Corporate is out of touch with the day to day workings of a grocery store. Most, if not all the talent has left this company when this company became centralized. An example, try explaining the money used to implement the 5 S program? Did that help sales and profit? NO! We are not a Toyota manufacturing plant and such programs don't work. Understand that the typical grocery store is dynamic and in a constant state of change. No two days are exactly the same. If Safeway really wants to be a better than the competition, listen to the store employees and not someone in the corporate world. We see the real business every day and can pretty much tell when one of the new gimmicks is a waste of time and money. Sell groceries and don't make it complicated.

    Advice to Management

Look at where the talent has gone and who is left. Do you think experience in the grocery industry is important in the mix or do you think that bankers and marketing gurus are the one's saving the day? The employees at the store level are very dissatisfied with the current corporate regime. Where will the new talent come from when these people have left? Who will run the stores? Safeway has always trained and promoted within, but the pickings are becoming slim. It is taking on all the classic signs of a Walmart
