I worked at Safeway full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

co-workers are the best to work with.

    Cons

    Doesn't adjust to market trends.

  2. "I worked here for two years. Ours is called 'Carrs Safeway' - it was originally a popular store here in Anchorage."

    Pros

Customer service/cashier experience you can take to another job.
It can be fun if you work later shifts when it's not so busy, and you have fun coworkers.
People are constantly quitting, so they're always hiring.

    Cons

Terrible pay. I got minimum wage for a year. Then I got a ten cent raise. Really?
It will suck your soul if you work here for too long. Really. It is terrible.
The 'uniform' you have to wear everyday is extremely unappealing and gross.
Managers are really disrespectful. I was a good worker. I stayed late when I had to, covered for people, etc., I never called in sick. One day I had a family emergency and needed to take care of my special needs sister. I tried to explain to the manager that I couldn't make it in - she called me 'young lady' and told me that because of the union, the only acceptable reason not to come in was if your sick. I quit on the spot.

    Advice to Management

Respect your employees a little bit. If you know someone's a hard worker and they've worked there for two years, and they call and say it's a family emergency, you probably shouldn't be a prick about it or you'll lose a good employee. If they treated their employees with a little more respect, people might actually want to keep working here.
