I worked at Saks Fifth Avenue full-time (More than a year)

Pros

Great benefits, Great place to meet people who can help you in the fashion industry.

Cons

Commission pay and over hiring during the holiday season.

Advice to Management

Don't hire so many people during the holidays because the regular associates have been waiting all year for that busy season. We end up making less than we would because of the extra associates who don't care about Saks standards and just want to sell and get out of there after the season is over.

I worked at Saks Fifth Avenue full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

You will benefit from a great employee discount on luxury merchandise. They have decent medical benefits.

    Cons

Management rarely promotes within. High employee turnover. Unrealistic sales goals. Needlessly stressful commission based environment. Your pay rate is on "a draw" -Meaning you must sell about 2,000 each day, before you begin to make commission. Until you make your draw... you are in "the negative" thus "owing Saks money". This makes for an extremely stressful environment.

    Advice to Management

Stop hiring so many new-hires that it is impossible to even make one's draw. Choose a mature quality based staff, rather than a sea of hungry rather unqualified staff that tarnishes the stores integrity. Promote from within so your top employee's actually stay with the company.

Overall not a terrible place to work, it's fun and has great co-workers

    Cons

Too consumed with "best practices" and horrible pay if you grow within the company
