I worked at Scholastic as a contractor (More than 3 years)

Pros

They have different branches that have many different avenues for you to pursue.

Cons

Certain areas are going through economic difficulties.

Advice to Management

Even if a person works as a contract worker, find open positions for them to move to when they have been with you for a long period of time.

    "Great Experience, lack of Growth"

    Approves of CEO

I have been working at Scholastic full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Family oriented, often people bring there children to work. There is an indoor greenhouse and the Scholastic Store often throws birthday parties. Everyone is friendly to one another for the most part and there are many employees who have been there for a very long time.

There is a lot of experience to gain, especially for one in the IT division. The eScholastic division in particular works with a wide range of new technologies to develop interactive sites, games, and mobile apps.

    Cons

As with many big companies, there isn't much growth. They seldom promote and bring in consultants with big salaries that you will then have to train. If you are going to come in as FT, you have to make sure you demand a high salary upfront. The only true way to get a raise is to quit unfortunately.

    Advice to Management

Invest a little more in your staff. High retention rates only reduce company morale, and decrease the amount of company-wide knowledge retained. Also realize that this is a collaborative environment and that working together and being aware of each others projects will in the end go a long way.
