Negative Outlook

I have been working at Seaboard Marine full-time (More than 5 years)

Pros

- Job security as long as you do your job, follow rules and come in ontime.

Cons

- Salaries are low due to not wanting to recruit top-talent.
- Organization is run like a 'mom & pop' shop, with many conflict of interests throughout the company (i.e. personal relationships, relatives, etc.)
- Lack of follow-thru on projects.
- Business application systems are 'dated' to say the least.
- Afraid to be progressive and edge-out the competition.
- Lack of leadership.
- No accountability by employees who have been w/the company for a long time.

Advice to Management

Corporate should re-evaluate all senior and mid management to 'cut-the-fat' as there are a lot of executives who do not 'get-it'. Take a page from 'Maersk' or 'Crowley'.

I worked at Seaboard Marine full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great benefits package, but that's where it ends

    Cons

Everyone in management has either been there for 30 years or is good friends with someone who's been there 30 years. HR is only there for management. If you have a legitimate complaint about harassment, they straight out tell you they won't document it because it will "look bad in the manager's record". You give two weeks notice and you are escorted out on the same day with no explanation. Harassment from upper management is rampant! Horrible place to work!

    Advice to Management

Start appreciating your good employees and give them a reason to stay. All of your great employees will leave for much greener pastures and you will be stuck with the same old blood that has been keeping your company down for years.
