I have been working at Sears full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Competitive salary, corporate perks like gym, salon, dry cleaning

The overall culture management is trying to create is a big family atmosphere, but you need to be in the right departments to even have time to take advantage of it.

    Cons

Location, location, location-Hoffman Estates is far away from anything worth while.

    Weak employee discount program.

The company has yet to fuse Sears and Kmart, forcing employees to work in different systems for each that do not speak to each other. Attempts to solve this issue have only been half-implemented, and the people who are left over from the merger have resigned themselves to tolerating this. In my department, this means people work 60-70 hours weeks just to get their basic job functions accomplished. Arriving at 4 am, skipping lunch and leaving at 6 pm has become a badge of honor, as has putting up with bullsh*t. Redundancy abounds, and even management seems to shrug theirs shoulders at it, all while touting the great lengths they are going through to improve the store experience.

Everyone is overworked, which means everything happens at the last minute ALL THE TIME. This means everytime someone asks you for something, they will act like it is a life or death situation.

Inventory is separate for Sears/Kmart, tying up millions of dollars in dual inventory. Of course, this requires twice as many people to manage.

All in all, this place is only for empty-nesters left over from the merger and college grads who have no where else to go.

    Advice to Management

Keep going after customers through omni-channel, but start using your employees more efficiently. That starts by COMPLETING THE MERGER.
I ended up taking a HUGE paycut by coming here, because I'm working twice as many hours as I did in my last job.

I have been working at Sears full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Flexible work schedules, easy ability to ask for days off. May depend on the receiving lead managing the backroom, though.

    Cons

Turnover rate is somewhat high across the store, have seen 1/3 of the hires in the back let go due to attendance or failure to put any effort into working. Associates start out at minimum wage, and unless the manager likes you, you won't be getting a raise until your year mark. It's also difficult to process trucks with fewer people due to recent firings, especially when the trucks are large for the holidays.

    Advice to Management

    Value your employees more.
