I have been working at Sears full-time (More than 3 years)

Pros

Can use metrics to build resume.

Cons

Don't expect time off, especially for management. Don't work here for pats on the back - its more important that you realize you can always do better, even if you've met all of your goals. Also goals are set by national standards - so you never really know what you'll need to hit by month end. Basically they take advantage of everyone, especially management and offer little in return.

Advice to Management

This is more towards senior management - If you want to keep quality associates you should realize that those who drive your metrics/sales are people. Provide an opportunity where while your working for the company your also able to have time for family. That is why I am seeking a new job.

I worked at Sears full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Nice, smart, hard-working people. Nice building and facility, great gym and cafeteria, not small matters. Nice suburbs around but also commutable from Chicago by public transportation.

    Cons

Company's strategic plans are flimsy at best. Does not value its employees. Low morale.
The downward spiral: Lots of cost-cutting, leading to worse stores, leading to worse sales, leading to more cost-cutting.

    Advice to Management

Edward S. Lampert: Stop having such a high opinion of yourself. Surround yourself with retail experts willing to disagree with you. Stop treating your employees like they don't matter to you, even if it's true that they don't. Stop hiring under-qualified people as division presidents, then placing unrealistic demands upon them that get them all fired within 2-3 years, creating a revolving door at the senior management level.
