I worked at Seattle Genetics (Less than a year)

Pros

Seattle Genetics has a great culture for collaboration. I was well mentored as well as given free reign to complete my own project independently. I was also allowed to make an impact within the formulations team and be a part of their progress.

Cons

Receiving feedback was not especially highly valued.

I worked at Seattle Genetics full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - The pay and benefits are great for the Seattle biotech area
    - Amazing perks like company sponsored rock concerts
    - Met a lot of nice colleagues
    - It seems the people who work in the laboratories are the happiest. Different buildings seem to have different company cultures.
    - No one ever gets fired even if they have awful social behavior.
    - the product itself and pipeline is valuable to cancer patients

    Cons

    - Some departments within Clinical are highly dysfunctional with toxic personalities in management that people have to avoid and HR does nothing about
    - micromanaging is common and decreases morale
    - lots of gossip, most of which is true based on the above
    - the pay and perks were not worth the anxiety of having to deal with drama and lies

    Advice to Management

    - Realize that pay alone does not determine job satisfaction; environment is key. (There's even a course about this offered on site that taught me "good people know they can go anywhere. It's your job to keep them.")
    - Listen to the employees when they have the same problem. Take a close look at mid management. Many managers shouldn't be.
    - work on cohesion between functional groups
    - don't promote so often and based on months worked. People should earn their promotions. The Director title means less if there's so many of them.

I have been working at Seattle Genetics full-time

    Pros

Company growth trajectory is good with a broad and active pipeline.

    Cons

Career advancement is limited; very limited seems related more to having a good manager who will work with you and engage with management on your behalf. Good place to start but need to be alert to outside opportunities.
