    I worked at SendGrid

    Pros

Up and coming company with great career prospects. Fantastic and engaged leadership team. It seems like they are hiring more amazing senior leadership and managers all the time, making it a great place to learn from. I was given a thorough onboarding doc which listed all expectations and tons of people within the company that I should reach out to based on my career path & interests. Owned 2 large projects... entirely myself and also completed day-to-day of full-time employees. My manager was stellar, and always made sure that the work that I did lined up with what I wanted to do professionally. In terms of the work that I completed, this was easily the best internship I have ever had (out of 3 other internships). I love everything about the culture. Every employee was excited for me to learn and grow. Benefits are stellar- free breakfast, lunch at a local restaurant, beer & wine, snacks, Cookie Tuesday. Don't know if this was a mistake, but I was also given a 401k with matching as an intern. We had our company party/yearly meeting in the Broncos stadium. I couldn't really find any office politics (and I looked for them). It's just great in general to be at a place where people love their jobs. Pro tip-- you can negotiate for your internship salary. Amazingly, this never occurred to me. Pay was still great (especially with 2/3 of my meals provided free), but probably could have been higher if I tried.

    Cons

They're working on it diligently, but SendGrid could use some more diversity. They have a huge diversity committee across a lot of teams that's putting together ways to make SendGrid more diversity friendly, which I thought was pretty cool.

    Advice to Management

Put more info about your awesome internship program online for students to explore. When I search for internships, I want to know what the day to day will look like, how elite the program is, what you look for in an intern, how many are able to turn the internship into a job, social aspects/special events that interns can look forward to, etc.

I have been working at SendGrid full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    - culture and people are amazing, they challenge you and push you to be the best version of yourself. - decision making process is astounding for a company of our size. Product, finance and engineering decisions are made in a very data-driven way. - Willing to discuss the hard topics and make the most informed decision. - Benefits are amazing, free lunch everyday is fantastic, i hope we don't lose this. - If... you're motivated and willing to work hard, you can be recognized and tasked with more responsibility. I've seen many people grow their careers here and be promoted every year based on their performance and determination.

    Cons

    - typical pains related to integrating with Twilio after the acquisition in Feb of 2019. Most painful of which is the figuring out how we make decisions now as one larger company. (Twilio has less process / standard way to make decisions, SendGrid has a formalized process). - The general energy of the company is lower now after the Twilio acquisition – still positive but now that we're not a standalone, public... company, there appears to be less control over our business (email, email marketing) destiny. - Culture of Twilio, while close to SendGrid's, is definitely different and will take some time to feel part of one

    Advice to Management

Keep working to make Twilio better by adopting and incorporating the best processes, people and systems across the two companies. There is a lot to learn from the employees at both companies that, if implemented, could result in an awesome company.
