    Pros

This is a strong company with improving HR practices and processes. They generally do good work.

    Cons

There is little flexibility and an enormous amount of political maneuvering. Because the company is a mishmash of smaller, acquired companies, there are many different corporate cultures going on, instead of just one. They are not technically advanced in their business practices, and you have to be physically in front of somebody for effective collaboration, which stands in your way when your company is nationwide. The company is mostly concerned with growth, by winning new business or by acquiring other companies.

    Advice to Management

Promote a culture of transparency so that the people who make up the company have to deal with fewer surprises. Efforts at dramatic growth through rapid change are alienating to your employees, who will respond by keeping their heads down, rather than pulling you forward.

Get and require the use of a basic company-wide instant messaging system.

Define the most important things to your company besides "growth" (e.g. performance on contracts, customer loyalty, technical excellence) and really focus on those things. You would also be well served to educate and incentivize everyone to work across stovepipes.

This will help solidify your customer base, reduce the risk of backsliding profits, and create a framework for sustainable growth.
