Pros

Opportunities for advancement are very good for the talented and motivated. Many initiatives are moving the company in the right direction. Salaries are competitive especially in the classified Defense / Intelligence space.

Cons

Company does not have a great "bench" for consultants, so if there is no project that matches your qualifications, you may be out of a job. This tends to be typical for government contractors.

There is also a lot of resistance to change which is hindering corporate progress.

Advice to Management

The company needs to address the bench problem. Lots of experience and training walks out the door when projects close.

    Pros

    - Been working with Serco for a year and met great and caring workmates
    - Haven't seen any equal opportunity violations since working there.

    Cons

    - Senior management lacks organizational skills and every time a new manager settles and learns the job, another one replaces that person.

    Advice to Management

Need to do more mentor building and focus on the relationship between managers and employees. If an employee has a personal problem, that employee should be given flexible hours until the problem is fixed.

    Pros

There is potential for a person to shine and be part of what may be a new player on the scene.

    Cons

The recent merger with SI International has placed 2 mid size companies together that seem to compliment one another well. The new larger company has the potential to be a new player on the block. The problem seems to be that there is lack of managerial experience. The 2 individual companies were midsize but acted as small businesses. The combined firm is now large but still operating as a small business. It will either come together quickly and rise to the occasion or fall apart. So a motivated person may take the ride up or down.

    Advice to Management

Determine was is required to perform as a top 30 contractor, determine where the current organization is, identify the gaps and institute a correction plan.
