Pros

Young people with in teams. Good incentives when started, but where then taken away, when performing.

Cons

There is a constant change without a structured base of guidance or rules to go off of, a “fly by the seat of your pants” type of feel. Crazy performance metrics to be performed off of, some of which do not make sense to certain client accounts, a “one shoe fits all” type of structure. Constantly monitored on the number of telcom sales calls, how long your calls where and who you were calling, even when people are performing. Adjustment to quotas while in the middle of a quarter, making it harder to reach your quarter bonus payouts. Do not like to pay for performance when employees are performing, as a rep you can bring in hundreds of thousands of dollars for the company but they don’t care or give you praise for your hard work. Bottom line is that, they treat you like a number and don’t care about your reasonable concern, question or future.

Advice to Management

Create incentives …. Care or act like you do.

Something’s to improve on:

Don’t become a “rainbird” coach. Set and focus priorities. Focus on developing both “skill” and “will” on your teams. Develop and focus on a sales team development plan and challenge your customers focus.

    I worked at ServiceSource full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    1. Great multi-cultural environment and people from many walks of life - you will work with some interesting people and make friends for life;

    2. Excellent initial technical development and interpersonal skills - these skills can be transitioned throughout your career both in SSI and in other companies;

    3. Excellent facilities and central location near the city centre;

    4. Fairly competitive pay for types of unskilled work;

    5. Excellent maternity pay; and

    6. Some great direct mangers and SMs which you can shadow and build skills from.

    Cons

    1. Detrimental monitored productivity from relaxed atmosphere the company previously adopted;

    2. Significant attrition rate of staff due to both type of work (related to point 1 above) and pay - SSI will continue losing talent;

    3. Silos in teams mean that development quickly stagnates and becomes limited;

    4. Unrealistic targets and forecasts which are subsequently amended regularly - this reduction ultimately creates tension between sales reps and managements as it directly impacts bonuses;

    5. No long term game plan - SSI consistently revamp their strategy based on current quarter antics - leadership appears directionless at times;

    6. Lack of honest and transparency from upper management which results in a lack of trust between employees and executives; and

    7. Lack of holidays - 20 standard holidays is typically well below the standard average of 25.

    Advice to Management

    1. Stop trying to make direct savings by allowing a significant attrition in staff - this has detrimentally affected the morale of existing staff;

    2. Rely more on statistical analysis provided by BI teams in order to create more realistic KPI's and quotas instead of bowing to client pressure on the first instance and failing to deliver a hail Mary;

    3. Be more transparent with staff in relation to "actions" you plan in advance; and

    4. Reward those that deserve it - there are many hard working individuals within the organisation and by focusing on saving money - you will lose your best assets.
