I have been working at Sherwin-Williams full-time (More than 8 years)

Pros

This company doesn't close stores
Bonus structure is good if you are in a good store with potential to grow
The company's stock is out the roof and growing!!!!!
If managers could be managers and not every role because of no staffing, the job would be fantastic!!!!!

Cons

The work load is ridiculous given the size of staff
Lead Generation of 30 calls minimum is hard to do some weeks and faked by most employees
Only 4 days closed during the year and sundays are an absolute joke to be open for.
The district manager's added rules are inconsistent across districts and at times break labor laws.

Advice to Management

Everyone knows who you are going to choose for an advancement before it even post on a job board, because you call the individual and tell them to post for the job, then word gets around the district. Isn't that called favoritism and also the reason why there are people in critical positions that are doing a terrible job? Hire the best person with no bias, not the person that will make the easiest chain of backfilling positions and you will have no "chinks in the chain".

    I worked at Sherwin-Williams full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great retail experience. Tons of knowledge to gain. Pay was at par. Good experience while attending college.

    Cons

Company culture went down the drain. Lay offs, reduced employees per store, increased store hours, all while denying any form of overtime. Managers are salary based so they can get away with it. Plus they are turning store employees and managers into sales representatives by requiring so many calls to customers per week and monitored like a hawk, which can be VERY difficult when required sometimes working a store by yourself due to said changes. With a "no excuse" attitude, and claiming stores are "properly staffed", which they are not, they no longer care about their employees. Very disappointed with the changes over the years.

    Advice to Management

Your store employees and managers are the front lines of making your "bottom line" higher and better. Make them happy and your profits will increase. Focus on customer service, NOT sales tactics and overburdening tasks, especially when stores are so short staffed, and they ARE short staffed.

    Pros

Learn a little bit about a lot. You make cold calls, ride with various types of sales reps. Expand your knowledge of paint which surprisingly is a great industry to work for. Pay is good for internship!

    Cons

Too many videos that are out dated and repetitive.
