Cons

hard effort not recognized, very hard to work yourself up in the company.

Advice to Management

Be stricter and follow the rules. I had very many problem with the people I worked there. Sales were down a lot but managment didnt listen to 'youngens' (20yrs old btw) for suggestions.

    Pros

    Decent discount on merchandise
Never ending work that is not too stressful- product shipment, markdowns, transfers, product promotions
Decent PTO, even for first year full-time employees

    Cons

Salary managers work A LOT (average 52 hrs/wk). During peak times/holidays salary managers work 6 day work weeks for at least 2 weeks, sometimes closer to 4 weeks in a row.

Long work days. Shoe Carnival boasts "they open before competitors and stay open later"

If a position is not available to transfer to, they do not create a temporary position (I moved to Nashville, TN from Louisville, KY because of my husband's job, and had to quit because there was not a store manager or supervisor position available).

    Advice to Management

Do not lie to your management. Set a true time they are expected to work, your competitors do it. For example, OBS expects salary managers to work 45 hours per week, not including breaks, and are tracked weekly on their total time worked. Their paychecks also reflect a 45 hour scale, not 40.

Also, do not obsess so much about the payroll budget. You end up losing valuable employees when a store cannot support additional payroll even if the situation is out of the employee's control, and the discipline policy has not been completed for another employee that is on their way out.
