Good firm with great benefits. Handled COVID well through Fall 2021.
Cons
They talk a lot about work/life balance but aren’t as successful in maintaining it as they should. Really pushed for return to office in fall 2021 even though there were multiple office infections.
- Sidley continuously offered employees (both FTE & contract) free food in the cafeteria (Chicago, IL)
- Snacks & beverages were continuously made available (again, for free) on almost every office floor in the building (Chicago, IL)
- Office spaces were kept impeccably clean
- Tons of support from managers and colleagues
- Diversity can be seen & efforts are noticed
- Unbelievably beautiful office & location (Chicago, IL)
- Internal promotion seems to be extremely common for FTE who perform well
Cons
- Micromanagement is rampant
- At the end of the day, there's a lot of self-inflated egos
- Mediocre work is highly praised
- Return to Work policy was strictly enforced while still in a pandemic (& when the job could easily be done from home)
- Very slow-moving projects; lots of personal down-time which will be blamed on the employee
- Unequal treatment of contracted employees vs. FTEs is *very* apparent
- IT (and management) tracks your mouse movement (but they're transparent about this)
- A lot of conversation with colleagues is, at best, very awkward small talk
- The only FTEs allowed to continue working from home are firm lawyers
