Pros

Industry leader in building automation. Good push towards sustainability. Most colleagues are very knowledgeable and helpful. I definitely enjoy working with my immediate group colleagues and bosses.

Cons

There is a process for everything. I'm sure someone will make-up a process for using a the washroom. Not very sales friendly. I believe some people use the process to hide from doing work but are protected from discipline as the process allows it.

Advice to Management

Look at balancing sales/customer friendly actions with the excessive time wasting processes. Empower people to make independent decisions. Excessive need to gain consensus.

I worked at Siemens full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Interesting job scope and great people to work with and for. Siemens was always looking for innovation, and encouraged workers to contribute their ideas and innovations. Technical competence was respected. Everyone had to pay attention to costs. Ideas had to have a cost spin on them to fly. This is a good company to get new experience and then leave. BEcause of the constant turn over at the top, Canadians are advised not to stay there. YOu can't move up beyond mid level management.

    Cons

Lots of back-room politics. Some people were trying to get ahead through whispering mill the negatives of others. When strong senior managers are in place, the workforce is happy.,When the turn around in the senior management occurs (as all senior managers are German, by definitiion there is a turn over every 3 years) and the new senior managers are not as good at their job or are short term focused, people become unhappy.

    Advice to Management

Trust the advise of the local canadian workforce. Try not to micromanage too much.
