I have been working at Skanska USA Building full-time

    Pros

Skanska has evolved from national acquisition of large construction management companies. Within the last 10 years, Skanska developed a system to streamline, standardize, and advance technologically to keep the company ahead of the competition. That's the overall picture. For people looking to work for Skanska, especially new graduates or semi-experienced technical candidates, each project and location dictates the potential experience that one can have. I was fortunate to be placed, not randomly but with careful consideration from HR and the big guns from Operations, in a location where I learned a lot, and learned a lot fast. This is opposite where many Project Engineers are stuck doing one simple task, repetitively, for months. It really depends on the project that requires help. Some people love repetition, while others do not. Nonetheless, out of the construction management market, this is the best company to work for (based on experienced workers with history with other large construction management companies). Civil engineers will do great here because their knowledge makes a Project Engineer very effective and a strong asset to the company.

    Cons

Not for technically poised electrical or mechanical engineers. This job is strictly Project Management. In a way there's nothing wrong with that since Project Management is something one can master so that he or she can focus on the complexities of construction. What I don't understand is that Skanska requires candidates with electrical or mechanical engineering backgrounds for Project Engineer positions while a person with Business Management background will do just as good, or better, than a technical candidate.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the good work, remain transparent as best as possible, and try to build more OneSkanska culture as much as possible.
