I have been working at Skyhorse Publishing full-time for more than a year

    Pros

I've had a great Skyhorse experience. Sure, there is a lot of work, but if you manage your time efficiently and are willing to ask for help when needed, it should be manageable. The company is great for learning a lot about various aspects of the publishing industry, and being a smaller company means it has the ability to be more flexible and pursue projects that you wouldn't be allowed to do at a larger house. There...

    Cons

Depending where you sit, it can be difficult to concentrate sometimes with everyone talking around you--but that's what headphones are for. There is a lot of work, but like I said, nothing that is unmanageable. If you do feel overwhelmed, you can always discuss options with your manager.

    Advice to Management

It's great to maintain an open-door policy so employees do feel comfortable talking to someone in management when needed. There are plenty of options, so everyone should have at least one person they're comfortable talking to.

I worked at Skyhorse Publishing full-time for more than a year

    Pros

I worked full-time at Skyhorse for just over 15 months. Prior to that, I had never worked in publishing (I worked in academia). During those 15 months, I gained a breadth of experience—from editorial, to publicity, and even learned a bit about the sales market. I learned more about the industry in those 15 months than I would have at any other publisher in 5 years. At Skyhorse, you’ll be challenged to put out high-quality...

    Cons

Workload comes in waves. Some days are light; some days are heavy. It all balances out though. You need to be proactive (this shouldn't be a con, but looking at previous reviews, many people seem to not understand this)

    Advice to Management

Continue supporting editorial ideas through break-out meetings. And continue supporting increased communication across departments.

I have been working at Skyhorse Publishing full-time for more than a year

    Pros

There are a lot of moving parts in any company, and staff are supposed to ensure that those moving parts function smoothly. The entire operation can be tested when stakes and pressure are highest, and deadlines critically loom. We at Skyhorse had the opportunity to experience very high stakes, pressure, and deadlines recently when the Mueller Report was released on Thursday, April 18th, and Skyhorse was in a race with...
