Pros

Large stable company with opportunity to work in different markets.

Cons

Conflicting directives. Managers give you little direction but expect high level results. The "just do it" attitude with no direction on how to do it can be frustrating. The commissioned sales people and bonus structures are not all they are cracked up to be.

Advice to Management

Listen to your employees, pay better and your employee retention will be better.

I have been working at Sleepy's full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

they offer there employees great training. You can work a 3 day work week and still be considered a full time employee with benefits.

    Cons

company is always changing the rules. bonus goals are unobtainable for the most part. The company will try and spin changes that they claim are to benefit the employee however its really to benefit the company. Huge employee turnover . There constantly training new employess to the tune of 75-80 a month. The company isn't growing that fast its honestly just from people quitting. New employees get better showrooms to work in . Sleepy's has charts to spin each employee to be read as a great employee or bad employee it's truly how they want to read it that day.

    Advice to Management

listen to the employees in the field. we are the backbone of the company and can make the company or break the company. Go back to the old bonus program, you can't tell us your paying out more $$ with new plan. What company wants to pay there employees more ? Advertise more often and not the 199.00 queen that pays nothing your insulting our professionalism . This company is growing way to fast with lack of trained management . Were a perfect target to go public . Harry Acker himself use to say all the time on the voice mail that he wants every employee to work 4 day work week and make 100,000.00 year. It's never going to happen the way the company is run,.

I have been working at Sleepy's full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The training is excellent. There are many wonderful, talented people employed at Sleepy's. Sales professionals are able to work 4 days/week. One of the top three companies to work for in the bedding industry along with Mattress Firm and Select Comfort.

    Cons

Sleepy's executives are constantly changing the bonus and commission structure of all employees and spinning it like it's a positive when in reality, it is all about the company keeping more revenue as it prepares to go public in the near future. What they do to their management is unspeakable. Regional and District Managers really do not get days off. They are expected to be available every day. There is no regard for family time at all when it comes to management. The job requirements are not difficult, but management is so overworked that they are not able to enforce even the minimum requirements for showroom standards and disciplines, so they end up with an entire sales force that just simply doesn't care. The rules mean nothing if not enforced. At a corporate level, everything is "paintbrushed", meaning there is no room for regional differences. It is assumed that every market/state/region is the same. That just is not reality. There is a lot of smoke and mirrors to try to make things seem differently than they really are. Upper management often talks out of both sides of the mouth.

    Advice to Management

Sadly, advice to management is futile. They pretend to listen (even use a lot of numbers to try to prove the point), but they really don't listen or communicate effectively to the staff.
