I worked at Smith Micro full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Decent company where one can learn and be involved in the wireless/IT industry.

I started as an independent contractor in the summer of 2010, and I was converted to full time at the end of year because of good performance, but it was a $20K salary reduction, but I still accepted because I liked at the company, at first.

I learned, enjoyed, and tested their products, but company morale changed drastically in Fall 2011.

    Cons

2011 was no doubt a bad year for this company.

While the wireless industry was thriving, SMSI missed their opportunity to invest the technology. Some of their retail products sold at a moderate rate, but not enough to achieve their financial revenue goals

Instead, company leaders made bad business decisions that resulted their declining stocks, closing several offices in the United States, and big layoffs in November 2011 and early 2012. Their highly anticipated "data-center" opened to lack luster fanfare. After the layoffs, that data center seems like a ghost town.

I feel a bit remorse when Mr. Smith addresses his staff at the quarterly meetings to do 'damage control'. Too many uncertain things went on as the months passed by. Surely, it wasn't his fault, rather his executive team were incompetent whom drove this once respectable company to the gutter and beyond

I was part of one of the 2 layoffs. I accepted their "nothing-to-brag-severance-package" and moved on with my career goals. I was not sad, but felt ironically relieved, .

2 months later their H.R. contacted me via email and phone to asked if I would consider returning as part of their Verizon testing team. However, I must re-apply on-line through their company web site. I declined to return their call and deleted email immediately because I was no longer interested: Been There. Done That & Never Looked Back.
