Pros

Multiple client management and experience
Multiple tasking capabilities
Matrix business model
Gain more experience in association management
Corporate management team is transparent on business decisions

Cons

Sink or swim mentality as you profess up
Can easily get burned out if you are successful
Work life balance diminishes the further up you go
Unreasonable expectations from senior management about how to be perfect
Less support from upper management as you progress up
Silo effect across all team members

Advice to Management

Revisit the matrix model for the service units. Look into more account management to give people a chance to actually do something with their respective clients.

    Pros

SmithBucklin manages more than 300 associations, so there are a lot of opportunities for exposure to and interaction with clients of different industries, goals, personalities, etc.

    Cons

It's easy for people to fall into the trap of working in silos because there are so many clients. However, the company (and employees, for that matter) does do a good job of trying to keep communication open and build camaraderie.

    Advice to Management

It might be helpful to have some sort of internal FAQ or knowledge center. It seems like people continually have the same questions, but perhaps that's lack of sleuthing on the part of those asking the questions.
