Pros

Used to be a decent place to work. They had improved the talent pool over the past several years that should have made Lance more able to compete and grow profitably. Some of the new acquisitions had great potential.

Cons

Since the announcement of the merger (really more like an acquisition by Snyder of Lance), many good people either left on their own or were terminated. Interestingly, appears to only be Lance people and unfortunately most of them were very good. Almost seems like Snyder's felt threatened. Now the culture is such that no one is motivated and feel like they could be next. Also, I do not believe there will be as much synergy as others predict.

Advice to Management

It is no secret that top management got big fat bonuses for their part in the merger but obviously did not care about their ranks. Lance management should have watched out for their own employees instead of letting Snyder's be in charge. If you keep up with this the shallow talent pool will become a cesspool.

    Pros

Leadership was a progessive and forward thinking group. There was an entreprenueral flavor from senior managment that filtered throughout the organization. They are always in merger/acquisition mode.

    Cons

The flip side of being in acquistion mode is that while from the corporate stand point the organization gets stronger, in many cases, good individuals lose their positions. Many talented and outstanding individuals had their positions eliminated even though the organization itself got larger and stronger after a major merger. It is not as comfortable going in to work, and you don't perform at your best when you aren't sure if your position will be the next to be eliminated.

    Advice to Management

I think if there are going to be position eliminations due to a merger or acquisition, it would probably be better to have the announcements of those eliminations all at one time instead of having several different announcements 2 to 3 weeks apart from each other. It's asking a lot of employees to continue going about business as usual and focus on doing their best when they don't know if they're going to still be an employee by the end of the day or not.
