Pros

Excellentes possibilités de formation
Large accès au marchet (assurance, banque, industrie, secteur public)

Great training possibilities
Wide access to the market, (insurance, bank, industrie, public sector)

Cons

lack of respect from managers to their direct employee, poor management
Law is not respected when IT professionals worked on the client's premises, the number of working hours can't allowed you to balance correctly your life.
Managers barely see their employees as they work on client's premises. So when evaluation interview comes, they barely know the employee, and what he did. Empoyee's aspirations are hardly taken into account or if it's the case, it will happen but maybe in a year!
I have the impression that only managers take benefits (in term of salary) of the company..

Advice to Management

stop considering age as a handicap
If employee could evaluate their manager, relationships could be more respectful.

    Pros

Lot of jobs with lot of clients. Good opportunities to move from a client to another and to discover some new jobs.

    Cons

Big structure so you're quite anonymous in the company. No real feedback from the management.

    Advice to Management

Spend less money in communication and more for the employees.

I worked at Sogeti full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great 401k, good health benefits overall, free phone plan, usually capped at 40 hours per week per contracts with clients. Consulting is one of the best ways to get into the field of IT/Development especially if you are just graduating. You will work on projects and systems sometimes that you have never even heard of, but that is a good thing! Learning languages, tools, systems, and industries is crucial to becoming a well-rounded person. Don't be afraid to ask for help, but don't ever expect for someone to do your work for you. There is direct and clear responsibility for each consultant so don't try to hide, the client and Sogeti will know very quickly if you are faking or lying or lazy.

    Cons

With most consulting companies there is always an extra layer that is involved, and that layer is called sales. Most other types of companies have sales split into another division, but most consulting companies don't always have that. There are a few sales-oriented roles but they will constantly need help and technical advice when making proposals to future or existing clients. This is usually fine but just be aware that it is expected of you, and can directly impact things like bonuses, promotions, and career advancements. If you are fine being just a developer forever, don't expect to be made a manager or senior manager level resource. It requires the full spectrum.

    Advice to Management

Overall, I have to say that I do really think some of the people are doing their best and actually care. With that being said there are a few things that are lacking that people took notice of from time to time as well. Sometimes big changes aren't quickly communicated, or are communicated in a "Sorry not sorry" type of fashion pretty much saying tough luck. I understand the need for adjustment and changes of policy, but if you change the bonus structure every single year, it gets old. Make bonus and promotion requirements very clearly defined and remember that this is someones career and in a way, their life. If you dangle a bonus carrot in front of them and at the end of the year they get nothing because they didn't sell new work, or enough of it, it is very likely that it will upset them.

Consulting does have a high number of college hires and it should pretty much be expected that a sizable amount of them will jump around to different companies several times in the first 1-5 years because that is a good way to gain experience with a more diverse set of technologies vs what you would see working just in once place.

If an employee makes something very clear to you (management), that is generally because they mean it. If you brush it off like it doesn't matter or think will just pass with time, you might find that to come back to haunt you down the road and have unhappy employees.
