I have been working at SolarCity full-time (More than 3 years)

Pros

SolarCity is the "Google" of the clean energy industry, known for hiring the best in the business, who are passionate, hard-working, and innovative. This is a place where you can really make an impact.

Cons

Not for the feint of heart. There is no "dead wood" here and because of our pace and rapid growth, change is the only constant. But if you are flexible and good at what you do - there is no better team or place to advance.

I have been working at SolarCity full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

As a newer company there are many things undefined or that have not yet happened. This provides opportunies to create, experiment and make things happen.

    Cons

The Company has grown quickly, and in certain areas without clear definitions and processes. The lack of defined processes can be costly and inefficient; it is also an objective way of doing business and does not account for the "user."

    Advice to Management

Get some experienced people in each department to define and COMMUNICATE the processes for each group -- actually put them down in writing. The lack of clarity of processes has created room for error and huge expense. Opportunity to be proactive, versus reactive.

I have been working at SolarCity as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

Happy people working with a purpose they all believe in
A green tech company with a very real, long-term vision
Just went public, it's soaring and here to stay
Surrounded by people with UNBELIEVABLE work ethic

    Cons

Not a startup anymore, having just gone public, so the culture may shift
Those who can't carpool will have to park nearly a mile away and take a (reliable) van shuttle
