I have been working at SolarCity full-time (Less than a year)

Pros

Smart, dedicated, highly-trained colleagues make this job fun. If you want to learn something new every day, come to work at SolarCity.

Cons

Long hours. But then again, I've always worked long hours. This is not an automatic-sell to potential customers because the general public is still unfamiliar with the concept. That's why the best sales team on the planet works here.

Advice to Management

Keep listening - even as growth makes that more difficult.

I worked at SolarCity full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Management created an environment where employees embraced the common goal of building a successful company. Good camaraderie amongst employees, but not necessarily with upper management.

    Cons

The demands placed on the sales team were insane. Sales reps were constantly under very high pressure to bring in more and more sales and the pressure was basically threat of job loss. These demands were not done over the typical sales forecasting periods like annually, quarterly or even monthly, but management demanded weekly and then daily forecasts from the team. Way too much micromanagement in this area and ALWAYS threatened to put people on performance plans (i.e. threat of being fired). In fact, many salespeople are fired on an ongoing basis to the point that turnover has become detrimental to the company as a whole. Sales teams are expected to be working 70-80 hours per week including weekends and into the evenings, often coming home from appointments at 10PM!

    Advice to Management

Treat all employees the same and with respect; Motivate positively instead of with threats of termination.

    I worked at SolarCity full-time

    Pros

This industry has a bright future , and if SolarCity changes it's culture it could easily dominate. It has seamlessly integrated the crucial elements of the business, design, construction, and finance

    Cons

This company does not want to treat their salesforce with dignity or respect.
Poor training, management by intimidation, rape of commission, and disposal of bodies when quota is missed.
Solarcity is a firm without pity.
Stay away if you are looking for a career.
You will find only ruthless exploitation.

    Advice to Management

Stop treating your salespeople like they are hookers and you are the hillside strangler.
Great companies are built by your people .....not on your people.
