    Disapproves of CEO

    Pros

    - Work environment is pretty laid back, though lots of the perks are gone
    - It's in San Diego, which has nice weather. Management would have you believe it is because of them

    Cons

    - Old boys club. SOE is full of management that has not matured with the online game industry. Products are uninspired, tinkered with by the CEO endlessly based on the games his kids decide to play that day, and late to market, not because they are spending time getting things right. They waste time making basic software development mistakes that you can read about in books from 30 years ago.
    - Nepotism all around. Growth and success in the company is more dependent on relationship with the right folks than performance. Learn to say "Yes we can!"

    Advice to Management

    Get some fresh talent in at the top that has success in the "Online" marketplace in the last decade. The industry has matured and bringing back EQ folks may not be the best way to get with the times.

    Doesn't Recommend
    Disapproves of CEO

    Pros

    * Very talented technical people
    * Excellent operational support
    * Fun work environment, casual dress
    * Get to work with some of the latest technologies

    Cons

    * All managers micromanage - it's impossible to get anything done without your manager telling you how to do it.
    * Non-technical managers make technical decisions.
    * Deadlines are either meaningless and slip, or are too short and cause employees to work extremely long hours.
    * Horrible life/work balance - 70+ hour weeks when management feels like it's crunch time. Crunch time doesn't necessarily mean near release time, just when management wants you there for long hours.
    * CEO micromanages individual projects. People are called in the push software in the middle of the night instead of the next day because upper management wants it out.

    Advice to Management

    * Commit to a deadline - cut features if the deadline won't be made.
    * Provide adequate life/work balance for people.
    * Remove the many levels of manages that are completely useless.
    * Get rid of the micromanagers.
