I have been working at South Coast Community Services full-time (More than 10 years)

Pros

They are good to me. It feels like a real team. Sometimes like a family. The work is hard and it is rewarding. You know you make a real difference for these kids. Management actually care about us. You can get promoted here. They will train you to be in management. Work conditions are good. Decent equipment, unlike some past jobs.

Cons

It's a hard job. Any job with this population is hard. You have to track your time, which is a total pain, but you have to do that anywhere.

Advice to Management

How about more training to be in management before you become a supervisor?

I worked at South Coast Community Services full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Work with families, and meeting new people.

    Cons

    Micromanagement, retaliation, and much more.

    Advice to Management

Some supervisors (assistant director) like to micromanage the employees to the point where employees prefer to put their notice and leave the job. Several complaints have been made and nothing changed and those employees do not work there anymore. Employees get fired for stupid reasons, but the ones who violate HIPA and don't see their clients are still working there.

I worked at South Coast Community Services full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Provide best care to those in need, flexibility in schedule, majority of supervisors are fair and good, some program directors are good and smart, pay is comparable to others in industry. Good training ground for clinical/program staff.

    Cons

Top honcho is control freak and tyrannical. Highest turnover in the industry, insurance premiums are too high compared to others especially for employees who include families in their insurance, some execs spend too much time vacationing, no credit is given to good and efficient employees (Will not give importance to good employees). Program staff are not listened to if they complain about their supervisors.

    Advice to Management

Why hire directors if you don't trust them to run the show? Interfere only when programs are failing to know the cause so it can be fixed. Have 2-way dialogues with employees during staff meetings (Not send questions in advance), be tactful in dealing with ALL staff, acknowledge support staff. The team is not complete without support. Treat everyone fairly. Judge others based on personal experience with staff and not from what others say. Favoritism and nepotism should not be practiced to avoid unfair influences and biases. Reach out to low level staff to show executives care since most employees have not heard of some executives. Executives should meet with supervisors to check how all program directors are doing...
