I have been working at Southern Audio Visual full-time

Pros

The company primarily deals in securing contracts with high-end hotels and serving as the in-house A/V. They have a great start in this, with a great presence all along the East Coast (heavily concentrated in Miami, where the company HQ is located), and expanding regularly. A huge freelancer base means there are always techs who know what they're doing, and the company directors and technicians all are excellent at what they do.

There is a lot of turnover at the bottom level of SAV, but for those who stick with it, promotions occur fairly frequently--they say they'd rather train people up for promotions rather than hire from outside the company, and it looks like they mean it. They're pretty good with their time off policies: one additional week's vacation for every anniversary with the company, and you can have off as much time off during slow season as you need (with approval, of course).

Cons

The company has been trying to switch over their software from a certain DOS-based(!) system to something much more modern. This changeover was supposed to be done by early 2012, but it's dragged on to July now and only a handful of locations has changed over. The transition has been very stop-and-go. On top of that, any time there is an "incident" with a client or a service, corporate reacts with a knee-jerk global policy that is as vague as it is unnecessary.

Rented equipment is not the most up-to-date equipment, however it is all maintained very well and the company pushes a "service-first" policy to compensate. Add on to this that the rental pricings are above the industry standard and it makes sales an uphill battle for every client.

Advice to Management

Stop spending all the money reorganizing up top and get some new gear--not just the used equipment that's being sold off from competitors' inventories!
