Pros

Very smart group of people dedicated to the idea that we do live in a democracy and that their role is to facilitate the goals of the public in the S. Calif area.

Cons

Only complaint - I sometimes found the process of obtaining goods and services the agency needed from outside vendors unnecessarily difficult. But it is rough working within a government agency - they are under a microscope and are aware of that.

Advice to Management

Each vendor bidding on projects as low as 6 hours of work needs to do a substantial amount of legal research in order to know the rules they must follow. Do that research for them so they do not all have to do it.

I have been working at Southern California Association of Governments as an intern (More than a year)

    Pros

Looks good on resume if you are looking for a planner job later

    Cons

    Did not learn new things

    Doesn't Recommend
    Negative Outlook

I have been working at Southern California Association of Governments full-time

    Pros

Pay...benefits..10% raises ...as long as you say look other way when staff are discriminated and harassed. Location and work from home (not really working) is also a great perk.

    Cons

No challenge...boredom. If looking somewhere to relax and retire in next 5 years, this is the place. Must do everything the Management says, even if wrong thing to do (99% of the time) and must get permission to speak to stakeholders, boardmembers... Management fears smart, outspoken individuals, and push those type of people out....sad

    Advice to Management

Clean house. Management staff are unqualified and have a club that lies and benefits for one another. Need real management and leaders.
