Disapproves of CEO

Pros

It is a solid company. They have ethics. There is good job security. They have a descent benefits package. The people are nice

Cons

No growth or development. You will not be promoted. There is no company culture. The company does not have even a company picnic. (There is one by the employee association, but you have be a member)

Advice to Management

Make decisions and lead. You are too scared to do something wrong so instead you do nothing.

I worked at Southern States full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Tremendous work diversity, not locked to a desk or register. Customers, primarily farm related are wonderful to deal with. Employees have the opportunity every day to share knowledge not just sell products creating a very loyal customer base.

    Cons

Staff is not rewarded well. Standard increase is 2% and emphasis is on hiring PT with no benefits. Even seasonal businesses need a core group of dedicated motivated employees who can anticipate adequate compensation and benefits. Company match on 401k is poor.

    Advice to Management

Find a way to offer a very limited benefit package to PT employees. A week of PTO, catastrophic health care, and some limited financial compensation on completion of various courses of study on company training site. Create some rationale to stick with company vs any other by the hour opportunity that’s out there. Have an exit interview team to learn why staff is leaving.
