I worked at Southwest Airlines as an intern (Less than a year)

Pros

Structured internship (HR), but mobility within individual departments.

Cons

The internship does not inherently lead to a FT position, regardless of how well you perform.

I have been working at Southwest Airlines as a contractor (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Generally supportive environment very flexible regarding telecommuting and flex time.

    Cons

Virtually impossible to get converted from contractor to employee.

    Advice to Management

Allow for more hires so that process knowledge does not leave when the contractors are terminated.

I have been working at Southwest Airlines full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Stability, co-workers, work/life balance, work hard but play hard mentality, travel, great insurance

    Cons

Some departments or groups do not align to corporate values. Small concern that profit is becoming more important than customer service. Perks are great but salaries are lower than other industries and airlines, at least in non-union roles.

    Advice to Management

Stay true to SWA foundational values. Vet external leaders better; some seem to only pay lipservice to our values.
