I have been working at Southwest Gas full-time

    Pros

There are truly some of the best people I have ever worked with at Southwest Gas. There is a strong work-life balance mindset for my department. I've heard it's different in other departments, but I can't really speak for them.

    Cons

Medical coverage has gone so far down the tubes and is prohibitively expensive. So much so that people are afraid to go to the doctor until they're at death's door. The lucky ones are covered under their spouses who are NOT employed with Southwest Gas. And this is a utility, where the reputation is good benefits.

    Advice to Management

It's great that Southwest Gas cares so much about helping local folks in need with all of the programs that are encouraged within the company. It's kind of hard to care for others in need, however, when your employee is struggling to pay $250 per month for asthma meds and scared to death of doctor's bills.

    Cons

No incentive and or growth opportunities once a current employees education is complete

    Advice to Management

Create a management training program that focuses on not only recent college graduates, but also current employees whom have completed their degrees while working at SW Gas.
