Neutral Outlook

I have been working at Southwestern Energy full-time (More than a year)

Pros

The culture of the company is overwhelmingly positive, and in an industry that often gets bad PR, this company is in my opinion on the right side of the tracks. Most managers also seem to care about your professional development.

Cons

The company has missed opportunities to be involved with a more diverse portfolio of liquids and gas. There is too much of a layered bureaucracy in upper management to allow swift movement on good ideas.

Advice to Management

Upper management should allow more trust in experienced individuals who are tasked with finding new play concepts. Involve all layers of management in early stages of play concepts.

    Pros

SWN is a great company that knows how to invest in their employees. SWN does require a lot from their employees but the salary and bonus and long term incentive are well worth any sacrifice.

    Cons

Long hours and sometimes demanding. The company has grown quickly and has become a leader in the energy business but not without growing pains.

    Advice to Management

Keep investing in the right people doing the right things, the underperformers will always weed them selves out.

    Pros

Great place to get experience so you can get a great job somewhere else (if you work in operations). The R2 training program is a total joke and is not a challenge at all. You don't need to know that much about geology to be a Senior Geologist, either.

    Cons

Some geologists are worked to the bone, while others simply have no impact. 20% of the workforce does 80% of the work. Those that put in the work are frequently overlooked for promotion by those who do nothing. The company has one asset, and it it's making realistic strides to diversify in a meaningful way.

    Advice to Management

Realize that your operations geologists are the foundation of the geologic workforce. Development and exploration is overstaffed.
