I worked at Spark Energy full-time (More than a year)

Pros

A pretty entrepreneurial culture, a really nice office complex, and a place to come and put great ideas into action. Honestly, I've never worked with a more capable team.

Cons

Getting laid off was definitely the low point. It became pretty apparent that the company didn't have the patience or internal makeup to stay the course on a given strategy.

Advice to Management

If you're going to go in a particular direction, commit. Stick to it. Whatever you decide to do, go all in.

    Pros

Good compensation and benefits, abundance of opportunity to assume more responsibilities and transition into other roles. Excellent springboard company - I see many IT professionals crossing professions and gaining experience in other technologies. A lot of managers come and go, so if you don't like your boss, all you have to do is wait.

    Cons

High work volume, high attrition, and short deadlines are constantly challenging project completion. A lot of us experience burnout on a regular basis. Not a place to spend many years at and retire from.

    Advice to Management

Give serious pause and consideration if you're applying for a managment position. This is a high-stress, fast paced shop. I have seen five IT leadership members come and go in just 9 months. Be prepared to drink from the fire hose.
