I have been working at Specialty's Cafe & Bakery full-time (More than 3 years)

Pros

Monday through Friday schedule, weekends and holidays off
Stores open at 6am and close at 6pm, no late shifts
Opportunities for internal promotions

Cons

Some locations offer on-site parking for a nominal monthly fee
No wellness programs for employees
No paid holidays (except for upper management)

Advice to Management

Provide paid holidays and/or paid time off for all levels of management
Develop wellness programs and incentives to improve quality of life for employees
Music selection in the cafes are horrible, please add current top 40 pop music to keep the vibe in the store positive

    Doesn't Recommend

    I worked at Specialty's Cafe & Bakery full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great co-workers, no weekends or late nights in a food industry is amazing.

    Cons

Inexperienced, under-trained management staff. Promotion of favorites over qualified, hard-workers. If you don't work in customer service don't expect to get any type of promotion. Corporate suits will parade around the kitchen during busy, peak hours to make "suggestions" on how things can work more efficiently. Was told I was paid to produce and not think by my general manager.

    Advice to Management

Really consider a more thorough screening/ probation period for store managers. Offer employees a better way to communicate with corporate staff without feeling like we will get transferred to another location because we voice an opinion or concern.

I have been working at Specialty's Cafe & Bakery full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Work life balance, great food, amazing people, opportunity to grow and learn as a person and a manager, high standards on product quality, Owners that realize when things need to change and they take action to evolve, and the pay is great.

    Cons

Growing pains are tough- we are learning how to stream line processes and systems but it's dramatically improving.

    Advice to Management

Continue to listen to your people, gather feedback. People want to know their voice has been heard and is valued. We are on the right track!! I think having a full regional team is going to help support team members and managers and grow our business.
