I worked at Splunk as a contractor (Less than a year)

Pros

VERY, "family" like environment. Everyone knows what they are doing. Some of then are genius. Open environment, flexible hours, EXTREMELY supportive and engaged management. Amazing work-life balance most of the time.

Cons

Development can be a cacophony of dorm room sound, smell, personalities and drinking at all hours of the work day. Less agile, more waterfall than they should be. They are not as adaptable to change as they could/should be. In fact several people I worked with were down right stubborn and set in their ways. The PM's don't seem to get full cooperation from development.

Advice to Management

Keep hiring good people, but tone down the drinking games and Arena quality sound system a bit.

I have been working at Splunk full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Competitive salary
    Great working environment
    Great people
    Excellent top notch CEO
    Excellent product - sells itself
    Free beer

    Cons

The culture at HQ is definitely not present at some of the other locations in the US - it's almost like going to a totally different company if you go to the Plano, TX office

    Advice to Management

Don't forget about the little people busting their humps day in and day out

I worked at Splunk as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

The work culture here is amazing. People are friendly and the company treats its employees well. There are a lot of very smart people from different disciplines so working here gets you exposure to people with very diverse skill sets.

    Cons

The work I was given to do as an intern was not the most interesting. In particular, I had to learn a lot of things that were specific to Splunk, and I wasn't able to gain many skills that were useful to me after finishing my internship. I think this was specific to my project, because some of the other interns I talked to did get a lot out of it.

    Advice to Management

None, they are doing a fantastic job.
