I have been working at St. Jude Medical full-time (More than 3 years)

Pros

Smaller size company versus some other major players in the market, strong device portfolio.

Cons

Inability to deviate for project timelines when major issues arise that cause significant design changes, even when these design changes will improve effectiveness of product.

Advice to Management

Allow for product design team to actually design the appropriate device, versus hitting a time to market deadline.

    Pros

opportunities galore, forward thinking, positive culture, fair compensation, great executive leadership, very aware of life balance. Great products. still small enough so that it does not feel like a mega corp.

    Cons

inter divisional politics a challenge, struggling to keep up with growth - basic company services (HR and Benefits) understaffed. Processes and workflow still old school at times

    Advice to Management

Converge and align (rinse and repeat)

I have been working at St. Jude Medical full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Work life balance, Good benefits, Friendly HR team, Good Immigration team, HR is always available, Top notch scientists to work with, Good place to start your career, Good benefits, Safe campus, Excellent Cafeteria, Free parking, Support for continuing education, Good infrastructure like latest PCs etc, Diverse culture.Excellent Senior leadership like CEO's and directors, Recognized institution so good for resume to jump other research organization.

    Cons

Lot of politics especially withing department, dont expect appreciation for your work, person with 10% contribution will be awarded as best employee, person with 100% contrbution will not be recognized, my manager is concerened about his job safety and never invites me to any meetings becuase I have more knowledge than him, HR policies are not clear enough especially the benefits, need to hire more smart people, FEDEX offers much better package so usually people work here for a year and move to FEDEX, Non collobartaive environment, If you are too smart then more work on the table, Researchers/Principal Investigators dont have management skills, Not a good city for family because of no good schools and high crime, person with no relevant degree and experience will be hired for irrelevant job Ex: person with BS in Sociology/Communication will be hired as CRA, good people are not hired, people are hired becuase they were college mates, cousins, relatives etc, No career growth and promotion, You will mostly see people from local University of Memphis - a very local graded school, Not a friendly work place.Since lot of politics you cant really say things to HR as information may leak and you may lose job.No career ladder.

    Advice to Management

Management training needed for Principal investigator and managers, people without people skills are hired for managerial positions, Hire person with qualification(degree) and experience for the right position, Get rid of interdepartmental politics.
