I worked at St. Jude Medical full-time (More than 10 years)

Pros

I can not think of any reason anyone would want to work for St. Jude Medical 'benefits they lowered their starting pay by $1.00 and hour and took away the 5% prophet sharing that they used to give to their employees. While Dan Starks takes home a Million dollars a year Salary.

Cons

St. Jude works their production workers to death, they will bring in temps and work them over a year without hiring them . This place needs a Union bad to protect the employees . Their are no happy employees at St. Jude.

Advice to Management

St. Jude medical needs to Fire their High School graduate supervisors who bully their employees but not their special pets.

I have been working at St. Jude Medical full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Fast-paced environment with very little bureaucracy. Sure, it has it's share of politics - every big company does. But personal growth comes quickly to those willing to roll up their sleeves and get after it. Office culture is terrific - fun atmosphere.

    Cons

Work-life balance is difficult to achieve, especially with consistent layoffs looming over everybody's heads (multiple layoffs in the past 2 years). Value for the shareholders has come each quarter at the expense of employee jobs. Value for the executives has come at the expense of special charges (which have allowed executives to achieve 100+% of their bonus each year).

    Advice to Management

It makes little sense that the company would decide that it's best-practice to take away bonus potential from engineers and mid-management level employees, but that's exactly what happened at St. Jude Medical. And in many cases, these employees had been bonus-eligible for several years. To take away bonus potential from the average employee (who is also likely to be middle-income), yet take special-charges to help ensure that executives achieve 100+% of their bonus potential, reeks of the Anti Robin Hood.
