I worked at Standard Chartered Bank as a contractor (More than a year)

Pros

Good exposure to wholesale banking projects. Colleagues are willing to share knowledge and each of us bring our previous project experience to make things work better. Good work life balance. Bosses do not mico manage

Cons

However, there are certain departments that have more members of certain race. Thus, there will be some minority that will be outcast. And appraisals are done by only one manager and not 360 degree by peers or other managers. Thus, the review could be skewd or not as fair.

Advice to Management

To have real cultural diversity in each and every team, not just overall as a bank. Performance appraial to be fair, probably via 360 degree feedback.

    Pros

    - Good working environment and culture
    - Competitive bonus in terms of AWS and variable bonus
    - Motivate employees and recognize long-term service employees

    Cons

    - Minimal or no career opportunities. (it is more likely to get stuck in the position unless you decided to leave the organization)
    - Short or rather incomplete training. Be prepared to learn on job basis
    - Some senior managers aren't friendly and doesn't honor their words. Although it can happen in many organizations, however, I have seen a handful that are very extreme and strong-minded

    Advice to Management

    - Improve training materials on a more frequent basis and may like to consider sponsoring courses in the related field for employees or provide English/Communication courses for lower management levels
    - HR management should raise base salaries to be comparable to other reputable foreign banks particularly for middle and front line employees
