I worked at Stanford University as a contractor (More than a year)

Pros

Many of my fellow coworkers were very supportive of one another. Workflow was constant, but with the ability to work from home it made projects very manageable. Lots of healthy and organic food options on campus so when I did work on-site it made for easy access to good food. Beautiful campus and surrounding trails.

Cons

Having to pay for parking. I unfortunately had a bike stolen (the culprits cut the chain). Not a fault of Stanford's, but something to be careful with if you take public transportation and bike to work. If you work here I'd recommend talking to your manager to see about keeping your bike in your office, most of them are ok with this.

I have been working at Stanford University part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Excellent professors and excellent classes. Awesome facilities for doing an experimental work. Weekly seminar relevant to your research. Frequent career fairs.

    Cons

electrical engineering qualifying exam does not really test your qualification. You can be the last in one year and the first, the year after!

I have been working at Stanford University full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Creative, collaborative culture in an intellectually stimulating environment. Great access to great thinkers and to the tech industry nearby. Thriving start-up culture.

    Cons

Expense of living in Palo Alto for graduate students and post-docs, who are paid just enough to survive in the area.

    Advice to Management

Experiment with research structure so that post-docs are not taken advantage of (very cheap, highly skilled labor).
