I worked at Stanford University full-time (More than 3 years)

Pros

Nice place and nice co-workers. Lots of added amenities to facility usage (fitness gyms, swimming pool, tracks, access to all libraries, discounts to events on campus, free to audit classes -- it is a biggie since Stanford charges a bunch for John Joe from the street to listen in in a class) and being in the center of the cutting edge of all studies of the human world.

Cons

Salary and benefits (medical, dental, vision, sick leave and vacation leave, etc.) subpar to City and County libraries. It's however, comparable to other University settings like UC Berkeley

I have been working at Stanford University full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Community, good and cheap food, trees, no cars allowed on most of Stanford, gorgeous church, love that it was founded by a believer in Jesus, beautiful grounds and most buildings are too, pay was better than average for my industry, benefits better than average, free buses, free caltrain, post office right there, security is pretty good, park off campus and have a lovely walk to work every day without paying for parking too.

    Cons

Cutting down too many trees to build more buildings, built in the lovely oak woodland along El Camino Real and that was sad to see, you have to pay to park anywhere on campus even if you work there, hard to get a job there.

I have been working at Stanford University full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Annual stipend for training plus free training events throughout the year. Nationally known for great benefits package including: Onsite Fitness programs and olympic level gyms. Matching retirement funds.

    Cons

It is hard to move up within a department. Some employees leave Stanford and then return to move to higher positions. Staff must aggressively search career advancement. Accounting departments are slow to re-imburse out-of-pocket expenses.
