I have been working at Stanford University full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great research facility, brilliant faculty mentors, excellent research opportunities, and great potential for academic growth.

    Cons

Not much contact with non-academic world, postdoc salary is good, but benefits are not great, no work-life balance (typical of any academic position I supposed)

    Negative Outlook

I have been working at Stanford University as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

Stanford on the whole seems okay. So,this review is specifically about The Dept. of Genetics if you are seeking employment there and doesn't Stanford University in general.

Good place for young Post Docs and Graduate students.

    Cons

This dept. generally lacks direction especially if you are looking for a full time employment.

Some relatively new hiring managers are amateurs and tend to provide misleading information to hire potential employees. So watch out if they are painting a rosy picture abut your job role.

Some P.I.s don't keep really keep good tabs on their groups and hence their management seem to crony with the companies for their own benefit.

    Advice to Management

Look into who you are hiring for management positions and monitor how they hire people and what they promise to possible new hires.
