I have been working at Stanford University full-time (More than 5 years)

Pros

Tons of resources available to students, both for research and personal development. This is *the* place to be to study at any education level. This is the opportunity to study under the best in their field, no matter what field they're in. There is plenty to challenge anyone.

Cons

Graduate school anywhere can be stressful, but this is more dependent upon the research group you work with. Salary for graduate students is of course low, but everyone knows that going in. I never thought so many people could live in such a wonderful place and spend all their time in labs not enjoying the outdoors.

I have been working at Stanford University full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

SLAC National Accelerator Lab is an innovative lab focused on high energy particle physics and synchrotron radiation science. While frequently funding limited, the emphasis is to do high quality science and, in a world dominated by quarterly reports, this is gratifying. The workforce is varied from Nobel-prize winning physicists to riggers but brings the breadth and skills needed to solve real problems.

    Cons

The management structure can be in-bred making promotion and management growth challenging - of course, opportunities in science are open-ended.

I have been working at Stanford University full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Stanford offers an amazing environment and source of resources to grow your career. Decent benefits, slightly better for employees versus postdoctoral research fellows. Affordable parking compared to other university campuses.

    Cons

Several employee training requirements and sometimes unnecessary bureaucracy to get through to accomplish simple tasks.
